On Sunday, July 21, 2013, Barb Whitney, Past President of the London St. Thomas Association of REALTORS® and REALTOR® with Century 21 First Canadian Corp., Brokerage, hosted a rock benefit concert in support of the victims of the recent flooding in Southern Alberta. The event took place at the Eastside Bar and Grill in London, Ontario.
“I was speaking with Linda Vollmer as Brian was in Calgary at the time of flood with his band Helix and he was shocked by how much damage was created by this flood so it got me thinking about the people who had to get out of their homes and what a mess they would be when they returned if they even had a home to return to,” explains Barb. “Seeing as my husband is in a band here in London, we decided to hold this fundraiser to give whatever we could to help the people in Alberta. It is going to take a long time and a lot of money to get over this and we wanted to help in any way we could. I talked to some Brokers here and got the bands together and asked agents to spread the word. REALTORS® really do care!”
Seven bands took to the stage, including international recording/touring artists Doug Varty, The Tutwiller Blues, Buffalo Brothers, Smashtones, Krazy Tok, Nasty Alex, and Best Buds. These local bands donated their time and talent to this event. The event also featured a silent auction and raffle.
The event raised $1,755, which will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross’ Alberta Floods Fund care of the Canadian REALTORS Care® Foundation. Thanks to the generosity of REALTORS® like Barb, the Foundation has already raised over $200,000 for this cause.
