The annual Rotary Oake Swimathon held by CENTURY 21 United Realty is a favourite event in the Peterborough community and always gets a great turn out. This year, the 32nd annual event was no different, raising more than $51,000, pushing the event total to nearly $1.2 million over the years.
“It takes a lot of effort to put it all together,” said CENTURY 21 broker Vanessa Oake Hogan. She added how she is happy to carry the torch her father handed her this year. “I’m very honoured to be carrying on something that my dad started over 30 years ago.”
Easter Seals Ontario received 25% ($12,000) of the total. That money will help Easter Seals send kids with physical disabilities to camp and helps parents afford mobility equipment. The remaining donations will go to a list of Rotary Club of Peterborough beneficiaries, including Camp Kawartha and the new YMCA.
“It is incredible to see how much the swimathon has grown in the past 32 years. It used to just be me swimming to raise money for Easter Seals, now we have the support of an entire community,” says former CENTURY 21 United Realty broker Carl Oake. “We are so grateful for the support and enthusiasm from the Peterborough community that we receive each year”.
CENTURY 21 Canada® is Easter Seals number one real estate fundraising company and their third largest corporate partner in Canada. In 2017, CENTURY 21 Canada® and members raised $748,194 in support of Easter Seals Canada–enough to send more than 400 children living with disabilities to summer camp.
Through events like The Drop Zone, 24-hour relays, local fundraising functions, and programs such as Closing Gifts for Kids, CENTURY 21 Canada System members have provided over 1,300 children with the independence of fully-accessible summer camps and memorable experiences throughout Canada.
