Winnipeg REALTOR® David Phillips went all in for a recent charity poker tournament.
With the help of his friend Bob Allen and the rest of his poker league buddies, Phillips, of David Phillips Real Estate with Cornerstone Properties, donated $750 to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, as well as Winnipeg Jets tickets to be used as raffle prizes for their first-ever charity event.
Close to 50 people turned up for the poker tournament. They raised a total of $1,260 for the foundation and also collected 220 pounds of food for Winnipeg Harvest, a not-for-profit, community-based food distribution organization.
“It ended up working out really well and larger than we thought it was going to be,” Phillips said. “Before everyone registered, it was required they bring something in for Winnipeg Harvest. The feeling you get after giving back is definitely worth it.”
Phillips said following the success of the tournament he wants to make sure it’s an annual fundraising event.
“It was a lot of fun, especially since I ended up making it to the final table,” Phillips boasted.
He added, “I think the plan is to do more stuff like this as my business grows.”
