Kristin Pierce didn’t know what to expect heading into the fourth annual Royal LePage Premier Golf Tournament.
Holding a fundraising event in cash-strapped Alberta, especially so soon after the devastating Fort McMurray wildfire, was going to prove to be difficult this year.
However, the team of 22 agents at Royal LePage Premier Real Estate in St. Albert, Alberta, banded together and managed to raise $22,400 for the local women’s shelter, making it their best year yet. The event, held at Sandpiper Golf and Country Club earlier this summer, sold out with 144 golfers taking part helping bring the four-year fundraising total to $105,000 for the Stop Abuse in Families (SAIF) Society.
“Word of mouth from previous years definitely helps. We were worried heading into this year because of the economy,” Pierce said, adding raffle prizes such as a signed Connor McDavid Edmonton Oilers jersey and a wine-filled wine fridge helped lure in players.
The SAIF Society is a part of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation‘s network, Canada’s largest public foundation dedicated exclusively to funding women’s shelters and violence prevention programs.
“I think it’s really important to give back to the local community,” Pierce said. “REALTORS® have a social responsibility and I think everyone in the community knows about how Royal LePage gives back.”
She said everyone in the office helped out with the tournament in some way, whether it be by collecting prizes or volunteering at the tournament.
“We’re doing it again next year, yes,” Pierce said, adding, “and we hope to break another record.”
