The Canadian Cancer Society got a big boost last month, thanks to Laura Leyser, REALTOR®, and her family business, Scoopers Ice Cream Shop in Stratford, Ontario.
Laura was pleased to help present a cheque for $5,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society on December 9, 2014. The funds were raised during Scoopers’ “Scoop for the Cure” event in the summer, when they committed to donating one day’s worth of sales.
“It started when I found out one of our Scoopers’ moms is living with cancer, so I decided it was time to do something about it and held our first annual Scoops for the Cure,” explains Laura.
These funds are being designated to clinical trials supported by the Canadian Cancer Society, of which there are currently over 40 running in Kitchener, Hamilton, and London. Clinical trials are research studies that are an important step forward in the cancer research process and may lead to new discoveries for treatments, prevention and diagnosis of cancer for local patients in the community.
