People in need in Vernon have clothing and blankets this winter thanks to the 4th Annual Sutton Warm & Fuzzy Shelter Collection organized by Sutton Group – Lakefront Realty. Generous donors dropped off enough sweaters, coats, scarves and other winter gear to fill half a room from floor to ceiling! A highlight for organizers was a special gift of 50 warm woollen blankets. All of the donations benefit clients of local charities including the John Howard House Society and the Women’s Transition House.
“We like to make it as convenient as possible for people to drop off items,” says Kim Hay, the Office Manager. “In addition to accepting donations at our office, we hold a drive-thru for a few hours in our parking lot and this year it was on November 5, 2014. We even had a gentleman on a bicycle with a trailer of donations! We extend a big thank you to all those who donated their ‘Warm and Fuzzies.’”
Broker Tamara Cinnamon was thrilled with the expression of community spirit. “We are once again so moved by the generosity of local residents. The REALTOR® team at our office is always fully onboard with helping out. Thank you also to the Vernon Morning Star, which was terrific about running photos and write-ups about the event. We found that we had an influx of donations after each of their write-ups.”
All donations were sorted at the John Howard House, where Kelly Fehr and other local shelter managers were able to gather items needed by each facility.
