After an unfortunate postponement due to tropical storm Arthur in July, organizers from Royal LePage Gardiner Realty in Fredericton, New Brunswick, were immensely grateful for the unseasonably sunny and warm weather at their first annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event on September 7, 2014.
Royal LePage Gardiner Realty sponsored the event, allowing every dollar raised by the walkers to go to Fredericton’s Women in Transition House. Sixty-two male participants collected pledges and walked a route through the community’s downtown beginning and ending at Fredericton’s historic City Hall wearing the event’s signature red high heels, all to raise awareness of gender-based violence.
“We are thrilled that $15,862 was raised at our first annual Walk A Mile In her Shoes®,” said Lincoln Thompson, broker-owner of Royal LePage Gardiner Realty. “I was absolutely blown away by the generosity of our community and the enthusiasm of the men who raised their hand to participate in support of this very important cause. We’ve already got people lining up for next year’s event, when we hope to exceed $30,000 in our second year.”
