Kara Rijnen Weekes, Broker of Record with Sandy Krueger Real Estate Inc. in Dorchester, Ontario, has pledged to raise enough money to build a bottle school in Guatemala in March 2015.
The initiative is part of Hug It Forward, a grass roots organization that facilitates education and awareness by empowering communities in Latin America to build bottle schools using “eco bricks”: plastic bottles stuffed with inorganic trash. Entire communities come together to build a more sustainable educational infrastructure for their future.
Kara has had the opportunity to visit Guatemala three times in the past two years. She looks forward to going back in March with her seven year old daughter, and working alongside the community the school will be built in.
“I fully believe in this organization and am committed 100% to helping them in any way I can,” explains Kara.
Kara needs to raise $13,000 USD to build a two-room school. So far, she has raised over $7,200. To come up with the remaining funds, she has organized a bowling/games night on October 5, 2014, at Palasad South in London, Ontario, and is offering sponsorships for the event. It is one of seven events across North America, all raising money for the same cause. For more information, please contact Kara at 519-808-1735 or kara@sandykrueger.com. Donations can be made by cheque or on Kara’s online fundraising page.
