REALTOR® Bill Warder, a Trustee of Animalert Pet Adoptions since 1993 and the man responsible for writing all those Adopt-a-Pet ads you see in the Classifieds, is taking on a new challenge – chairing the Board of PAWS, a not for profit with plans underway to get its registered charity status and a mission to support animals who have been abandoned, who have been living with guardians in crisis, are lost, or require temporary or permanent shelter. This includes pets belonging to people experiencing homelessness or who are transitioning between housing where pets are not allowed.
Typically, shelters are not set up to accommodate pets; often their owners choose to stay on the street because they do not wish to abandon their pet. Similarly, women in abusive relationships will often delay leaving that relationship for fear of what might happen to a beloved pet left behind.
Barb Whitney, LSTAR Past President, has organized a street party fundraiser for Animalert during the past few summers. Pictured above is Bill Warder posing with the food, litter, and toys donated by Barb’s neighbours – gifts that were distributed to many of Animalert’s foster homes.
