On November 21, 2012, Brian Walker, OREA Past-President (2007) and current Director-at-Large with CREA, hosted the 7th Annual “Jam with a Past-President” in support of the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation. Over 100 REALTORS® were in attendance and 18 of them bravely took the stage to participate in the Jam.
Brian explains that planning and picking the right venue are key to the event’s success. “Having a band has been one of my hobbies and I have a network of talented musicians I can call on to ensure people have an entertaining evening,” says Brian. “I take advantage of the fact there is a large group of REALTORS® in town and no evening event planned. Events have been held in conjunction with OREA PAC Days and a CREA SGM. I also ensure that the venue has something special about it that it adds to the draw factor. Many people have commented how much fun they had just going to The El Mocambo, which is an infamous Toronto club.”
The hard work certainly pays off: This year’s event raised $7,261 for the Foundation, bringing the grand total raised since the Jam’s debut in 2007 to a whopping $29,387.
“I continue to do this event because I get such great feedback and realize it’s my opportunity to leverage one of my abilities to make a difference,” explains Brian. “I strongly believe in the value of the Foundation and the positive impact it can have for our REALTOR® image.”
The Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation‘s mission is to enabling OREA’s members and real estate Boards to practice effective and ethical fundraising in support of shelter related causes in Ontario.
