Jeff Lehman, Mayor of Barrie, Ontario, was the guest speaker at the recent Election and Installation Meeting for The Barrie & District Association of REALTORS® Inc. The event, held at the Barrie Country Club on December 13, 2012, was well attended. The occasion also provided the opportunity for the Association to present a donation on behalf of the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation in the amount of $6,490 in support of the Samaritan House Community Ministries.
The Samaritan House Community Ministries’ mission is: “Labouring together with one vision…help those in need.” Samaritan House – Simcoe County achieves this goal through their offerings of transitional safe housing for women and children, children’s literacy programs, adult computer training and job search, drop-in centre, and youth life skills programs.
The Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation, a real estate industry charity, enables REALTOR® members and real estate Boards to effectively support shelter-related charities that help to provide refuge and protection and improve quality of life. In 2012, over $500,000 was donated to shelter-based programs in communities throughout Ontario.
“We are pleased to support The Samaritan House Community Ministries this year,” states Walter Doret, President, The Barrie & District Association of REALTORS® Inc. “Their organization provides valuable programs for our community.”
