REALTORS® Host Third Annual Pumpkin Giveaway in Support of Local Boy with Rare Cancer

For the past three years, Pat and Shannuna Jordan, REALTORS® with Royal LePage RCR in Schomberg, Ontario, have organized and hosted their annual pumpkin giveaway for charity, in honour and remembrance of Theresa Morana, Pat’s former partner, who passed away from breast cancer.

This year’s event – “The 3rd Annual Fall Fiesta Fundraiser” – took place the afternoon of Saturday, October 20, 2012, in Beeton. Approximately 300 pumpkins were on hand to be given away, donated by Bob Reynolds, a local farmer. Locals enjoyed performances by two local bands, a bouncy castle and face painting for the kids, a silent auction, a bake sale, and a BBQ. There were also local businesses on hand to offer warm beverages and snacks.

“Usually the proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada, but this year we heard about a local boy who is suffering from a rare form of cancer and decided to split the proceeds between the Breast Cancer Society of Canada and his family,” explains Pat. Simcoe.com recently shared the story of 13-year-old Joe Gallinger and his family’s struggle with Ewing’s Sarcoma.

Pat and Shannuna report that an estimated $7,500 was raised at this year’s pumpkin giveaway – by far, the best result to date. This brings the total raised by the annual event to close to $10,000.

“The whole community came together, helped out, and showed support,” recalls Pat. “It was absolutely amazing.”
