On August 16, 2012, if you were to look up… way up… outside of the Royal Bank Building in Winnipeg, you would have seen a daring Reg Black, Broker/Owner of Century 21 Sun Country Realty and CREA’s Regional Director (Manitoba), rappel 200′ from the 17th storey. We’re happy to report that he lived to tell the tale of what he calls “an incredible experience” as part of Easter Seals Drop Zone.
It was certainly a nerve-testing challenge. “Not only did I have to take the first step off at 200’ up (you have to put a lot of faith in a piece of rope!) but we also had to contend with 50-60 kilometre winds, which made things even more interesting,” Reg explains.
With the help of over 70 donors, Reg raised $4,550 and awareness for the Society of Manitobans with Disabilities and Easter Seals. The money raised by all 72 brave participants of Drop Zone in Winnipeg – a grand total of over $109,000 – will support and sustain vital programs and services that reach over 47,000 children, youth, and adults with disabilities in Manitoba.
For more than 85 years, Easter Seals, a registered charity, has been dedicated to serving Canadians with disabilities, striving to ensure that no one is left behind. More than 100,000 Canadians and their families annually access programs and services provided by Easter Seals organizations across Canada.
In addition to camp and active living, Easter Seal services include the provision of specialized mobility and access equipment such as mobility aids, assistive technology, adaptive computers, augmentative communication devices, and adaptations to homes and vehicles for wheelchair accessibility.
