Despite the fear of rain, on Saturday June 9, 2012, a team of REALTORS® from Century 21 Heritage Group Ltd., Brokerage’s Newmarket branch and family members took to the road on a bike made for 29, raising awareness and funds for the Heart & Stroke Foundation (H&S). Century 21 Heritage Group Ltd. Newmarket has been participating in the H&S York North BIG Bike fundraiser each year since 2008. According to H&S York North records, the brokerage was the first real estate firm in Newmarket to participate in this great annual event.
In the first four years of participating, Century 21 Heritage Group Ltd. Newmarket raised $11,839.50. So far in 2012, they have added another $3,867.00 to that amount for an impressive grand total of $15,706.50. And for the fourth consecutive year, their team has been honoured with the “Team Spirit Award” – it’s easy to see why!
“We ride the BIG Bike because it is an experience like no other,” explains Eric McCartney, REALTOR® and Team Captain for this year’s ride. “We ride every year to remember those we lost and have the disease. More research and education is required and riding is just one small way we can help.”
The Heart & Stroke Foundation is a volunteer based health organization whose mission is to eliminate heart disease and stroke in our communities. Programs such as the BIG Bike for Stroke allow the foundation to partner with local businesses and community teams to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke, which take one in three Canadians before their time, as well as support world class research and advocacy efforts locally. Funds raised by the BIG Bike teams will support campaigns such as the “Restart a Heart, Restart a Life” campaign, which has resulted in the installation of almost 4,000 AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) and has already saved 37 lives in Ontario.
