She came to make a presentation but left with an unexpected donation. Wendy Pratt, Executive Director of the Nanaimo Community Hospice Society, was the keynote speaker at the Zone 4 (Nanaimo) REALTOR® Luncheon held May 31, 2012. After informing the assembled group at the Coast Bastion Inn of her organization’s efforts to raise funds for the purchase of a new facility, she was presented with a $2,500 cheque to assist with the Society’s efforts. Vancouver Island Real Estate Board (VIREB) Past President Jim Stewart, with the assistance of REALTORS® Jennifer Merilees and Dave Hammond, delivered the cheque to the startled but pleased Pratt.
The Nanaimo Community Hospice Society is seeking to raise $900,000 (of an estimated $1.25 million) needed to convert the former site of the Montessori School into a new and expanded home for the Society. The surprise donation was the just the latest in a number of presentations made to the Hospice Society by organized real estate in recent months. Pratt said her group’s fundraising efforts have reached the halfway point in terms attaining its fiscal goal. “We still have a long way to go, but with help like this I’m certain we can make it,” she said.
