A team of Saint John REALTORS® from Exit Realty Specialists showed off their wild side in late April, raising over $700 for Big Brothers Big Sisters. The team raised the funds in support of “Bowl for Kids’ Sake,” Big Brothers Big Sisters’ signature fundraiser event. The REALTORS® wore animal-print bunny ears as a nod to this event’s jungle theme, and joined dozens of other community and business teams who took to the lanes with the kids to support the charity.
Big Brothers Big Sisters, a mentoring program that matches qualified mentors with children in need of friendship and guidance, relies on the Bowl for Kids’ Sake event for one third of their annual operating costs.
“The money raised at this event goes towards carefully screening and matching volunteers with local children,” says Deanna Gamble, Public Relations Officer for Big Brothers Big Sisters Saint John. “It is a vital part of keeping these important relationships going.”
According to Big Brothers Big Sisters, children with mentors are 80% more likely to graduate from high school and 42% less likely to abuse drugs.
“Hearing these stats made us realize just how important it is to get involved,” said team member Laura Peacock. “We had a great time and we are already looking forward to next year.”
