On September 20, 2011, the Chair of LSTAR’s Slo-Pitch Committee, Stephen Ord, and Past Chair, Barb Whitney, handed a cheque in the amount of $3,514 to LSTAR’s “Home at Last” (HAL) Committee Chair, Heather Arnott.
The money will support the next phase of the latest HAL Project – which, through the joint efforts of LSTAR, Habitat for Humanity London, and CMHC, will make the dream of affordable home ownership a reality for yet another low-income family living in the London area.
Back in June, 12 teams of more than 190 REALTORS® participated in this year’s slo-pitch tournament, organized by LSTAR. They enjoyed a day of friendly competition, refreshments and fabulous prizes. Sutton Group Select claimed the 2011 championship title, while the first runner-up was Sutton Group Preferred. The 2011 Bob Eaton Sportsmanship Award was won by Brian Simpson of Oliver & Associates. The event took place at Slo-Pitch City in Dorchester on June 10.
Later that month, thanks to the HAL Initiative, a home donated by the City of London was moved from its old foundations to a new location. The home was renovated to basic, decent, modern standards, and will be sold at a fair and affordable price to a local family.
The “Home at Last” (HAL) Partnership is one of the three finalists for Pillar Nonprofit’s prestigious Community Innovation Awards, in the “Collaboration” category.
