On June 10, Saint John Real Estate Board members teamed up to help put an improvement plan for a War Veterans Memorial Park into action.
The Jervis Bay-Ross Memorial Park, which commemorates those lost in the Second World War, is cared for by the Jervis Bay Branch #53 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Over the last few years, the park – a hilly green space spanning 4.6 acres – required more attention than aging war vets have been able to provide.
This is where Saint John Real Estate Board stepped in, sending a REALTORS Care® team of 20 volunteers to pitch in and plant over 75 trees and clean up piles of debris around the park.
“Not only is this park an important memorial to those who lost their lives in service, it is also a vital part of the community, as the only green space in east Saint John,” said Saint John Real Estate Board REALTORS Care® Chair Barry MacDonald. “This project was a truly meaningful way for us to honour our lost soldiers, our veterans, and our community.”
All that’s left now are the finishing touches.
“We noticed that the flag poles are bare,” said Saint John Real Estate Board Executive Officer, Angela Boudreau. “And we’re already looking into fixing that.”
