On Tuesday, November 18, the London and St. Thomas Association of REALTORS® (LSTAR) welcomed over 150 REALTORS® to its Election Luncheon Meeting, at which LSTAR President Bruce Sworik was pleased to present a $12,000 grant to Susan Dill, Director, Residential Programs and Services at Women’s Community House. The grant comes from the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation, which REALTORS® in LSTAR’s jurisdiction support by donating one dollar per member per month.
The funding will provide the Women’s Community House with part of the start-up costs to support a social enterprise venture that will convert surplus used clothing donations into profit that will support Women’s Community House operations. This used clothing retail outlet will also provide an accessible, safe employment training and workforce re-entry point for abused women; it will strategically invest in the improved health of the community’s marginalized youths through pre-employment skills training in collaboration with Youth Opportunities Unlimited; and offer practical work experience for abused women who have completed a pre-employment skills training program.
“LSTAR is very proud to participate in the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation and was pleased to present the cheque to Susan on behalf of the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation,” said Bruce Sworik, LSTAR President. “This cheque helps deliver the message to the public that REALTORS® really do care about their community.”
