Improving the lives of those in the community, whether through affordable housing programs or focusing on helping kids and their families, are just two initiatives the Moose Jaw Real Estate Board and the Association of Saskatchewan REALTORS® supported this past summer.
On June 20th, 2008, Moose Jaw area REALTORS® and invited guests teed off at the Lynbrook Golf Course to support the Habitat for Humanity Moose Jaw chapter. As a national organization with a belief in eradicating sub-standard housing by building homes for low-income families, the Moose Jaw chapter of Habitat for Humanity operates under the umbrella of the larger Habitat in Regina.
“It was a beautiful day…the weather was ordered up special for golfers,” said Patty Kalytuk, Director of Communications and Administration for the Association of Saskatchewan REALTORS®. “Everybody really enjoyed themselves. There were lots of prizes…the Moose Jaw crowd did a great job. Kudos to (Moose Jaw Real Estate Board Executive Officer) Jim Millar and (Moose Jaw Real Estate Board Director and chairwoman of the 2008 golf tournament) Sonya Bitz for all their hard work.”
In total, $8,075 was raised at the annual golf tournament and barbecue with $4,845 being donated to the Moose Jaw chapter of Habitat for Humanity and the remaining $3,230 going to the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign – a program focused on raising financial support for children, teens and families who are unable to afford the full cost of participation in a YMCA program or activity.
Also this summer, the Moose Jaw Real Estate Board held a barbecue in the board office parking lot. A total of $385 was raised and donated to the Hunger in Moose Jaw program, which, since 1993, has provided educational and nutrition programming to children, nurturing their potential and supporting their families.
