On January 18, 2008, REALTOR® members of the Kitchener-Waterloo Real Estate Board raised more than $6,000 for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
During the KWREB’s annual meeting and Kick-Off dinner/dance, 598 tickets were sold for a chance to win an all-inclusive one-week vacation for two at the Five Star Riu Bachata Resort in the Dominican Republic. Almost $3,000 was raised for the raffle and the prize, which was donated by East Forrest Homes, was won by Jeff Reitzel – a REALTOR® with Keller Williams Golden Triangle Realty. Jeff then donated the prize to the Board and Program Committee Chair Ted Scharf auctioned the trip. The successful bid, by Barry Rogers helped raise another $3,100.
The Food Bank of Waterloo Region works through 67 member agencies, and with the help of 1,000 volunteers assists approximately 25,000 different individuals in the Region each year. Last year food was distributed through the emergency food hamper program (61,364 hampers), meal programs (385,638 meals), and housing shelters. For every $1 that is raised, the Food Bank is able to provide more than $8 of emergency food.
