Arriving in a new country can be an overwhelming experience – a new culture, new customs. and a new way of life. For over 30 years, S.U.C.C.E.S.S., a multi-service agency in British Columbia, has been helping immigrants of all ethnic origins adjust to Canadian life and encouraging their full participation in the community.
On July 15, 2007, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. held their annual “Walk with the Dragon” community fundraiser in Vancouver’s scenic Stanley Park. Over $560,800 was raised during the event, with $7,200 donated by the Chinese REALTORS® Group. REALTOR® Sing Yeo of Royal Pacific Realty Corp raised $10,185, and was winner of the Top Personal Fundraiser Award.
“The government provides 75 per cent of the funds necessary to operate S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and the remaining 25 per cent is raised through donations,” said Sing Yeo from his Vancouver office. “S.U.C.C.E.S.S provides a lot of services, including new citizenship programs, helping with job opportunities, and helping seniors. They also do a lot to promote events in Canada.”
In addition to raising money for S.U.C.C.E.S.S, Yeo gives his time and energy to other causes, including the Heart and Stroke Foundation and cancer research. Yeo is very honoured to have been asked to sit on the S.U.C.C.E.S.S Board of Directors next year. He plans to continue his fundraising efforts.
