Jim Hendricks and Mark Rosenberg – two REALTORS® with Sutton Group-West Coast Realty in North Vancouver – rode their bikes for 100 km in June in support of Cystic Fibrosis research. The eight-day cycling trip from Vancouver to Calgary began on June 3rd and avid bike riders crossed the finish line on June 11th. Thirty cyclists participated in the challenging ride, and raised close to $10,000 for CF research.
The love of another sport – hockey – helped Hendricks and Rosenberg make the decision to join the cycling trip. “Tyler Hill, the 16-year-old son of a friend from hockey, has cystic fibrosis and he enjoys a happy life,” said Hendricks. “We wanted to help other young people affected by the illness have a joyful, normal lifestyle.”
Hendricks and Rosenberg rode 50 km each and completed their bike ride at Harrison Hot Springs. Other REALTORS® from the office were also happy to contribute through donations.
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common, fatal genetic disease affecting young Canadians. CF affects mainly the lungs and the digestive system. In the lungs, CF causes severe breathing problems. It is estimated that one in every 3,600 children born in Canada has CF.
There is no known cure for CF, but there is real hope. Since 1989, when Canadian researchers discovered the gene responsible for CF, global research to find a cure for the disease has brought us closer to a solution. Fundraising activities such as this bike ride bring in extra means to take another stride towards the long- sought cure.
