It was all fore a good cause.
The ninth annual Royal LePage Calgary Shelter Foundation Golf Skills Challenge recently brought in $22,000 for the Children’s Cottage Society and the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter.
Organizer Josh Nelson, a REALTOR® with Royal LePage Benchmarks, has been on the foundation’s committee for 12 years and said he feels inclined to give back to a worthwhile cause.
“I’ve been born and raised a REALTOR® which has led me to this position in life where I want to give back,” he said.
The skills competition was hosted by Royal LePage Solutions and Royal LePage Benchmark. It featured many different games including longest drive, closest to the pin and numerous chipping and putting challenges.
About 120 people took part in the afternoon’s events that led into the evening with a dinner and silent auction.
“It takes months to get all the sponsorships aligned,” he said, referencing the tough economic situation in the heart of oil country. “It was a tougher year (to get sponsors) but we have a good committee with lots of volunteers and we were able to put on a really good event.”
Prizes included full rounds of golf at prestigious clubs as well as casino packages.
Nelson said it was important to carry on all the good work the foundation had been doing following the December closing of the brokerage he was at. Now the foundation has amalgamated with two brokerages allowing it to continue and grow.
