In 2006, the Alberta Real Estate Association created the Quality of Life award. The purpose of which is to recognize the community and volunteer efforts of an individual REALTOR®. Since it’s inception, the Quality of Life award has been presented to REALTORS® who uphold the highest ideals in the spirit of giving back and volunteerism, and who ensures their communities are constantly thriving and growing. This years recipient was Calgary REALTOR® Dave Nicholson.
For over 10 years, Nicholson has volunteered with Scouts Canada. In 1997, Dave joined 175 Whitehorn Scout group as an assistant leader. He has since held many roles including “Akela,” meaning leader, as well as serving as the Chairperson for the Whitehorn Scouting Parents, the fundraising group from Whitehorn. Over the years, and as a direct result of Dave’s involvement, the group has been able to send youth and adults to Cub summer camp as well as sending Scouts and Venturer youths to both provincial and national jamborees.
“Thank goodness real estate allows me the flexibility to give back to the community,” said Nicholson. “Real Estate is about helping people make their dreams come true. I believe helping out in the community follows along those same lines.”
As an active member of the Rotary Club of Calgary East, Dave has served as vice president, president and treasurer and is currently the group’s youth exchange inbound counselor. He also regularly volunteers his time with local schools and has volunteered with the CREB® Charitable Foundation.
For Nicholson, it’s all about balance. Balancing career, volunteering and especially family life. “It’s just something I’ve always done, it’s important for individuals to give back whenever they can,” said Nicholson.
The Alberta Real Estate Association will be formally presenting Nicholson with the 2007 Quality of Life award at the Calgary Real Estate Board’s long service night in May 2008.
