On Monday, March 5, YMCA Spin for Strong Kids kicked-off the 2012 YMCA Strong Kids Campaign to benefit more than 13,000 local youth and children. Calgary Stampeders, Calgary Roughnecks, LA Kings alumni, children who benefited from YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, staff, volunteers, YMCA members, and non-members were spinning on stationary bikes at YMCA branches to help raise $1.4 million. As part of this event, CREB® Charitable Foundation presented $25,000 in grants to the campaign.
This grant is the first of 25 that will be distributed this year. CREB® Charitable Foundation, in celebration of its 25th anniversary, will be honouring 25 local charities and non-profit organizations with $25,000 grants, on behalf of Calgary and area REALTORS®. Recipients of the CREB® Charitable Foundation 25 for 25 program will be announced throughout 2012. CREB® Charitable Foundation, created by Calgary and area REALTORS®, empowers local charities and non-profit organizations committed to shelter and community enhancement initiatives. Grants will be given out for projects that fall in to the categories of Vulnerable Populations, Shelter, and Community Health and Enhancement.
One in four kids coming to YMCA need financial assistance. YMCA Strong Kids Campaign raises money to help children and youth have positive experiences, make healthy choices, feel connected with others, and learn the skills required to become the leaders of today and tomorrow. The 2012 goal is to raise $1.4 million to help more than 13,000 kids and teens. All money raised by YMCA Strong Kids Campaign goes directly to youth. Administrative costs are covered from YMCA’s operating budget; not from donations received.
