The Central Alberta REALTORS® Charitable Foundation, together with the Red Deer and District Real Estate Board (RDREB) presented an $180,000 cheque on November 7 to the Red Deer Hospice Society. The RDREB and the Foundation pledged an additional $70,000 to the Red Deer Hospice Society over the next five years, bringing the total donation to $250,000.
The monies have been raised over the last 12 years through a variety of fundraising activities, including casinos, bingos, polar ice dips, raffles, golf tournaments, auctions and dinners. The Foundation and the Board have been very active in Red Deer and throughout Central Alberta communities, contributing to housing and shelter causes. As part of their commitment to the Quality of Life initiative, the RDREB and the REALTORS® Charitable Foundation believe raising funds for the hospice ensures the real estate community throughout Central Alberta leaves a lasting legacy for all citizens. The Quality of Life is an industry-driven campaign to recognize the volunteer contributions of our members helping make their communities better places to live.
The Red Deer Hospice Society has been open to the community for two years, and has served nearly 100 residents and their families from Central Alberta. The 10,000 square foot, 10-bed facility offers care and comfort to the terminally ill and their families. The Hospice is the first facility in Alberta to be built from the ground up for this purpose.
“I’m pleased and honoured to have members of my industry step forward and commit themselves in a significant way to the Red Deer Hospice Society and in support of the communities of Central Alberta,” said Hospice Director and REALTOR® Bryan Wilson.
With the financial aid of the Charitable Foundation, REALTORS® are becoming more visible in the communities where they live and work, and assisting with the Quality of Life.”
