REALTOR® Dave Procter is putting the pedal to the metal this summer and cycling across Canada to raise money for the B.C. Cancer Foundation. Procter’s cycling for cancer tour is also his way of celebrating his 50th birthday.
“It’s one of those things I wanted to do,” said Procter , one of the founding owners of a co-founder of the RE/MAX franchise in the Comox Valley. “I’m going to be half a century old and I always wanted to do something and this seemed like a perfect mental and physical challenge.”
Procter, who has been a licenced REALTOR® since 1978, hopes to raise $100,000 and is asking the B.C. Cancer Foundation to allocate all money raised to Breast Cancer Research. The B.C. Cancer Foundation is endorsing Procter’s trip and is assisting with donation collections through its website. Procter’s journey begins June 23 rd and continue s for nine weeks with 55 stops . Already, some of his friends and REALTORS® across Canada have signed on to join him on different parts of his trip . Procter ‘s partner and fellow RE/MAX agent, Leach Reichelt, will join him during the Ontario leg of his trip along with their three children – nine-year-old Nicholas and 10 year-olds Danielle and Chase.
Touring across Canada in nine weeks requires Procter to be on his bike for eight to 10 hours a day . It’s a challenge he’s looking forward to. “It’s my way of “giving back to the community and to the company, which has been so good to me,” he said.
According to the Canadian Cancer Society, cancer is the leading cause of premature death in the country. In 2006, the Canadian Cancer Society reported an average of 2,944 people would be diagnosed with cancer every week and an average of 1,354 people would die every week from cancer.
