Brent Pay walked 5,000 miles and he might walk 5,000 more, just to be the man who walked all those miles to raise money for Easter Seals’ Camp Winfield.

The REALTOR® with CENTURY 21 Assurance Realty recently completed a four-year long fundraising journey by walking a total of 5,000 miles and donating $1 for every mile completed to Easter Seals BC/Yukon to help pay for improvements at one of their campgrounds dedicated to children living with disabilities.

In front of a crowd of 60 family members and friends on March 11, he crossed the “finish line” in front of his home in the Okanagan region of British Columbia. The milestone inspired those who joined him that day to collectively raise an additional $3,800 for the cause.

“I originally started walking for my own health. I needed to lose weight and get back in shape to improve my quality of life,” Pay said, mentioning he just recently turned 60-years-old and has lost 35 pounds since he started walking nearly four miles a day since Feb. 10, 2014. “It hit me I could help others while helping myself and wanted to support our company’s charity of choice.”

For nine years, Pay has helped organize a charity poker tournament that has brought in $133,000 for Easter Seals BC/Yukon. His charitable giving was recognized in 2016 when he was honoured with the Central Okanagan Real Estate Board’s REALTORS Care® award.

With a beneficiary chosen and the determination to do some good, Pay hit the road – going through six pairs of runners over the years.

He’s walked one-and-a-half times the width of Canada from coast-to-coast and has no intentions of stopping.

“I’m still going and I want to do another Easter Seals fundraiser when I reach 6,000 miles,” Pay said.
