REALTORS® have come through for Habitat for Humanity Comox Valley in a big way. The affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canada is a relatively new addition to the Comox Valley and was established in May 2004.
The Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia and individual REALTORS® in the area provided a considerable amount of assistance to Habitat for its most recent construction project. The current build, a duplex on a lot purchased by Habitat for $120,000, was completed in June and the new homeowners took possession before Canada Day.
The Foundation provided the group with a grant of $50,000, while Marty Douglas, Manager of Coast Realty Group (Comox Valley), and the REALTORS® and staff at his office donated time on the construction site and provided a cash donation of $3,000.
Douglas says supporting Habitat for Humanity fits perfectly with the principle of providing housing opportunities under his industries Quality of Life initiative.
“Quality of Life is a philosophy adopted by the BC Real Estate Association (BCREA) to demonstrate the commitment of the profession to improve the Quality of Life throughout the province,” Douglas says. “We want to help all British Columbia’s achieve the dream of home ownership, which is the foundation of a strong community.”
Douglas added that the philosophy also supports growth that encourages economic vitality, builds communities with good schools and safe neighbourhoods.
Stephen John – a REALTORwith the Coast Realty Group (Comox Valley) – has also donated two lots to Habitat for Humanity Comox Valley for future builds. One is in Courtenay, and the other is in Campbell River.
