Finishing in last place isn’t usually seen as an achievement, but when your team is able to raise $1,500 for a good cause, there’s not much to be disappointed about.
CENTURY 21 Assurance Realty Canada participated in the Pihl Law Paddle for Prevention to raise funds for BrainTrust Canada and while the “Centurions” finished at the bottom of the standings, the team is proud to report they had fun competing at the charity stand-up paddleboard race. In total, 168 participants raised close to $48,000 for the non-profit organization dedicated to reducing preventable brain injuries and providing support services for those affected by brain injuries.
The cause deeply resonated with Century 21 Kelowna broker, Myrna Park.
“I have a sister who suffered a brain injury a year ago,” Park said. “BrainTrust Canada does remarkable work for people with brain injuries, so it’s a cause near and dear to my heart”.
All funds raised go to brain injury prevention, education and support programs in the Okanagan. There are 60 new cases of brain injuries reported in British Columbia alone every day. The incidence of brain injuries outnumbers breast cancer, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis and HIV/AIDS combined.
The Centurions had a great time giving back to their local community and, luckily, the office’s Communications Specialist Leigh Kjekstad joked they were better at fundraising than they were at racing. The team is already looking forward to getting involved next year and will continue to raise awareness for BrainTrust Canada.
