With a team of 16 REALTORS® and friends, Sutton Group–West Coast Realty in White Rock, British Columbia, raised $4,070 for the Hike for Hospice on May 7 and provided 150 goodie bags for fellow participants. There was a great turnout for this year’s five kilometre charity hike along Crescent Beach in White Rock. The sun was shining and the participants were thrilled to be raising money and awareness for a worthy cause.
This was the first time that Sutton Group–West Coast Realty (White Rock) participated in the Hike for Hospice, but it won’t be the last, said REALTOR® Edie Takahashi, who spearheaded the event for her office.
“We all had a blast!” Takahashi said. “The laughter and comradery were absolutely delightful, not to mention we are so excited to do this again next year, when we plan to be bigger and better.”
Takahashi wanted to extend a special thanks to Bruce Copp, Terry Wong, Kristina Eng, Sharon Greyson, Jay and Jeanette Weeks, Lin Sawicki, Andrea and Rob Hakesley, Jessica Ni, Linda Wei and Gary McGratten.
“As REALTORS®, we are so blessed to be able to do the work that we do in our community,” Takahashi said. “Giving back is one way to show our appreciation to our clients and friends and support this important service.
“Hospice touches all of us and is run mainly by volunteers. We wanted to show that we recognize the hard work that they do and are so thankful for all of their heartfelt efforts.”
Edie was inspired to join the Hike for Hospice and to rally her colleagues because of a personal connection. She has a friend who was touched by the compassionate care of hospice, then, once she retired, began volunteering with the White Rock South Surrey Hospice Society. This organization is celebrating its 35th anniversary; hikers commemorated the event (pictured above).
