On Saturday, December 6, 2014, Royal LePage Kelowna hosted the 15th annual Fill the Van for Sally Ann event. The team collected 10,314 lbs of non-perishable food donations and $6,181 in cash and cheques. The value of the food donations is estimated at $20,628, which all adds up to $26,809 worth of food and cash donated on one day! According to The Salvation Army, this will help approximately 2,000 households.
“I believe that everyone should be able to celebrate Christmas with a turkey dinner and put good food on their tables,” says Wade Webb, Broker-Owner of Royal LePage Kelowna. “Fill the Van for Sally Ann makes that happen.”
The Salvation Army has been active in the community of Kelowna since 1919. Last year, they offered practical assistance to nearly 6,000 individuals and 2,000 families with food, household items, furniture and clothing living in the Central Okanagan through their Community Life Centre. In addition, last Christmas, the Salvation Army provided food and toy hampers for over 900 children in their community. The food collected during the Fill the Van for Sally Ann event helps replenish the Salvation Army food bank shelves for many months to come and gets food into the hands of those struggling during trying times.
