The 3rd Annual Sutton Warm & Fuzzy Shelter Collection, organized by Sutton Group – Lakefront Realty, was another success for people in need this winter. Generous donors from Vernon and the surrounding areas dropped off enough clothing and blankets to fill half a room from floor to ceiling, as well as cash donations! All of the contributions benefit clients of local organizations including the John Howard House Society, the Gateway Shelter and the Women’s Transition House.
“We put the word out through the shelters and the Social Planning Council to find out which items their clients needed,” says Broker Tamara Cinnamon. “This year, the wish list included towels, at the request of a shelter, along with blankets, cash and winter outerwear such as coats, mitts and hats for children and adults. People continued to drop by our office all week with donations. It gave us all a warm and fuzzy feeling!”
“This event started quite simply when we heard that the shelters were in need of winter clothing a few years ago. Recognizing that not everyone would be comfortable walking into a shelter, we decided to be the collection point and make it as easy as possible for our great North Okanagan citizens to fill the need.”
