The Nanaimo-Ladysmith Schools Foundation (NLSF) recently received a generous donation from three local REALTORS®: Dave Hammond, Greg Bullock, and Ian Thompson of the HBT Group and RE/MAX of Nanaimo. This donation of $3,000 is on behalf of their clients and will go towards Christmas hampers for five local schools who have increased need around the holidays for extra support.
“There is a huge amount of resources in this community, but regularly many families struggle to feed themselves, particularly around the holidays,” says Dave. “We wanted to donate this to the Foundation because we know that funds will support families and help make the holiday season less stressful for those in need.”
The donation will go towards hampers, foods and gift cards to help make the holiday’s joyful for vulnerable families at five schools. The Foundation will provide funds to the schools to ensure their needs are met in the best possible way. A family of four would require different items than a single parent family with one child, so as opposed to generic hampers the schools are able to select the best way to provide support to the families.
The Nanaimo-Ladysmith School Foundation raises funds and works in partnership with teachers, administrators and counselors in School District 68 to deliver support programs that better the lives of students in need. Supplies and programs that are not covered by the school board budget are supplemented through the Foundation. In 2011/12, the Foundation invested over $480,000 back to local students through various programs, including food programs, elementary music, student support fund, scholarships and bursaries, and the Mini-O track meet for special needs students.
