The REALTORS® of Greater Victoria have concluded their annual food drive, breaking previous years’ contributions by bringing in 2,165 pounds of food (valued at $5,347.50) and $3,933.78 in cash and cheques.
“We received an outpouring of generosity from both the real estate community and from the general public,” says Wendy Moreton, chair of the Victoria Real Estate Board’s Community Relations Committee. “This is our fourth food drive for the Greater Victoria community, and definitely our best result yet. I think people realize the need in Victoria is growing.”
Indeed according to Brent Palmer, Food Bank Director for The Mustard Seed, over 7,000 people now rely on food banks to get through each month. “This contribution is very timely as the need is high and food supplies in our distribution warehouse are critically low. Those helped by The Mustard Seed as well as the Sidney, Sooke and Goldstream food banks will benefit from this generous community support.”
The Mustard Seed is a non‐profit organization fighting hunger and restoring faith in Greater Victoria. The Mustard Seed runs the largest food bank on Vancouver Island, providing nutritious hampers to its neighbours in need throughout the week.
