It’s still not known who won the game, the ex-NHL stars or the Victoria Real Estate Board team, but the local food bank certainly came out on top.
Summer time is a difficult time for local food banks and, regardless of sunny weather, people in need require assistance. That’s why Victoria REALTORS® took part in the fifth annual Fivehole Hockey for Food tournament and donated $2,500 to the Mustard Seed, a Victoria-based non-profit that helps supply food and services to those in need. The organization is nearly 100 per cent community-funded and its services include a food bank, family centre, hospitality programs and addictions recovery.
Special thanks go to the Victoria REALTORS® street hockey team made up of Keith Berkes, Alex Burns, Kris Gower, Rick Humphries, Jenny Lu, Jeff Shorter, Kevin Wensley, and VREB Director Bill Ethier. This group took time out of their busy schedules to participate on behalf of all local REALTORS® in a fun community event.
The event raised more than $13,000 and 1,300 pounds of food for the Mustard Seed. Hundreds of spectators watched as teams of ex-NHL players, MLAs, city councillors, police, REALTORS®, firefighters and members of the public faced off for the food bank.
