The Manitoba Real Estate Association hosted its inaugural Charity Golf Classic at Glendale Golf and Country Club on July 31. The tournament was held in support of the newly formed MREA Shelter Foundation, which is dedicated to affordable housing and homelessness initiatives.
Reg Black, the 2006-2007 President of MREA, made the Shelter Foundation and the golf tournament one of his first objectives. “I wanted to launch the shelter foundation with the golf tournament, to raise its profile and to start to build its funds,” said Black. “I’m very impressed with the response.I think everybody is. And it happened because of the efforts ofthose on the Shelter Foundation Committee, as well as the staff at the MREA. And it’s even more impressive because this is the first time we’ve done this.”
Over 130 REALTORS® and their friends came from across the province to show their support and raised $12,700 for the MREA Shelter Foundation.
Participants at the tournament were two teams from Siloam Mission, which MREA has done a great deal of work with over the past year. REALTORS® from as far away as Dauphin and Brandon made the trip, as did Ron Lemieux – the Province’s Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation.
“We’re dedicated to the development of strong, vibrant communities in Manitoba,” said Foundation Chair Deborah Goodfellow. “And in this golf tournament, there were no losers because all the proceeds are donated to the MREA Shelter Foundation.
