This past June, the Fredericton Real Estate Board held its’ fourth annual charity golf tournament with proceeds going to support Special Olympics New Brunswick. In the past, Special Olympics has been the recipient of proceeds raised and this year over $10,000 was raised – the largest amount to date.
The success of the tournament is attributed to the Publicity/PR committee comprised of volunteers from the membership. Countless hours were spent organizing the event and contacting the local business community for prizes and donations.
Major sponsors such as Riverview Ford Lincoln Sales Ltd provided a car for a hole in one contest and Wilson Insurance provided a twenty thousand dollar cash prize for a hole in one. Scotiabank donated the food and manned the barbeque during the entire tournament. There were other events including a marshmallow drive, a putting contest, a fifty-fifty draw and a silent auction.
The following evening, the Special Olympics New Brunswick dinner was held with guest speaker Paul Henderson in attendance. At the dinner, Board President Ed Carten and golf tournament co-chair Todd Smith presented Joe Trevors – Special Olympics Executive Director a cheque for $10,157.40.
