September was a busy month for REALTORS Care® activities, with members of the Saint John Real Estate Board raising funds for kids, seniors, and the Terry Fox Foundation.
The Terry Fox Run, which took place on September 18, was the first event. Ian Swanton, REALTOR®, who has managed the organization of the Run in the Kennebecasis Valley from its very first event in 1980, presided over a highly successful 31st event. Over 350 participants raised over $5,000 for cancer research.
On September 24, Scott McAllister, REALTOR®, was a key part of the fundraising team behind the “Brian Lund Casino Night,” a fundraiser for PRO Kids, which provides funding for sports equipment and registration fees to kids in need. The event was a great success. Guests raised $12,000 and participated in casino-style games and an auction.
That same evening, Shirley McAlary, REALTOR®, hosted the 13th annual gala for the Rocmaura Nursing Home Foundation, raising an astounding $50,000. Shirley, who is a former Saint John City Mayor, has chaired the gala committee for the past three years. Funds raised are used to upgrade nursing home residents’ rooms. “With the first phase of the upgrades complete, we will now begin replacing the old furniture in the residents’ rooms with newer, multi-purpose wardrobes,” said Shirley. “This decreases the clutter and gives the room a sense of home, greatly adding to their quality of life.”
