The New Brunswick Real Estate Association’s CEO said he’s not surprised, but “truly in awe” of the charitable spirit shown by REALTORS® at their annual general meeting.
CEO Jamie Ryan said the association already planned on holding auctions and a 60/40 draw—a slight modification to a regular 50/50 draw in order to honour the NBREA’s 60th anniversary—to raise money for five northern region food banks as well as Dalhousie’s Haven of Hope organization, but then something else happened. REALTORS® “responded with their hearts to the unexpected tragedy in the Humboldt area.”
“The whole country was affected and mourned together after the loss of 16 lives in Humboldt,” Ryan said of the tragic bus crash in Saskatchewan last month. “The Association of Saskatchewan REALTORS® asked for help raising money for the first responders on scene and our members and real estate boards responded overwhelmingly. I was really humbled.”
New Brunswick REALTORS® gathered an additional auction item, individual pledges were made, and real estate boards responded which led to an additional $4,200 being collected for the Humboldt First Responders fund. When factoring in the money raised at the annual general meeting for the New Brunswick charities, more than $13,000 was raised at the two-day event.
“We are so appreciative of REALTORS® who supported these worthy causes,” Ryan added.
Some of the items to bid on included Toronto Blue Jays tickets, a guitar signed by Kenny Rogers, five star dining experience with live music and various gift baskets donated by brokerages across the province.
