It’s no secret REALTORS® are a giving bunch.

At REALTOR® Quest in Toronto last week, we had the opportunity to meet with hundreds of REALTORS® who are doing outstanding charitable work in their communities.

To get REALTORS® chatting about the good work they do – aside from doling out mounds of candy to passersby – the Canadian REALTORS Care® Foundation held a random draw for $1,000 to the charity of the winner’s choice.

The day has come to announce who the lucky REALTOR® is.

Drum roll please.

Congratulations to Eve Leung of RE/MAX Goldenway Realty in Richmond Hill, Ontario!

Eve has been donating to children in need through World Vision for years and she said she’s passionate about helping children. That’s why she chose the SickKids Foundation as the charity of her choice to receive the $1,000 donation.

“The children are our future,” she said. “I have always believed that my commitment to volunteer work gives me valuable experience in return.”

There were many REALTORS® who took time to tell us about the causes they are involved in.

Like Summer Ross, of Harvey Kalles Real Estate Ltd. in Toronto, who has a number of causes she’s passionate about including the Santa Comes to Bay Street initiative that helps women and children in shelters and outreach programs receive gifts during the holiday season.

Or Missy Yano, of Royal LePage Signature Realty in Toronto, who donates time and supplies to create birthing kits for expectant mothers living in poverty so they have access to clean and safe birthing conditions.

And Dan Williamson, of HomeLife5 Star Realty Ltd. in Toronto, who is a long-time volunteer at an eye-care clinic in Jamaica. Since 1999, about 5,000 patients have been helped fitted with glasses or have received acute care.

Whether it’s a Habitat for Humanity house build or sponsoring Syrian refugees, the giving reach of REALTORS® is vast. From 2012 to 2014, the Canadian REALTOR® community reported giving $71.6 million to charities.

And that’s only from what you told us; who knows how much higher the true amount is.

If you have a giving story you’d like to share, let us know. You could have an article featured on the Canadian REALTORS Care® Foundation’s website. E-mail info@realtorscare.ca.
