TREB President Maureen O’Neill was very pleased to present a cheque for $10,000 to the Salvation Army at the annual TREB Charity Golf Classic. In total, the event raised $17,800 for the Salvation Army. The balance was presented at the recent “Gathering for Giving” Charity Reception. This annual event dates back to 1927 and has raised thousands of dollars for various charities. Everyone was a winner, enjoying the great weather, wonderful food, and sharing in the prizes at the Mandarin Golf and Country Club in Markham.
Honour for the Purkies Cup was especially hot this year with no less than four teams tied with low scores of 61. A tiebreak formula was used to determine the winning team of Chris Butler, Jeremy Fisher, George Carras and Jeff Young. Second place went to the team of Wentworth Willock, Jeff Vanhaverbeke, Sue Pepe and Maureen Rago. Finishing third and fourth respectively were the teams of Zig Elles, Joe Dobrowski, Martin Ball and Don Dobrowski and John Meehan, Mike Sheehy, George Cheney and Zarko Zaric. Wentworth Willock won the Men’s Long Drive while Lina Risi took the same honour on behalf of the ladies. Marlene Rosen defended her Ladies Closest to the Hole award from last year. Brock Tully took the Men’s Closet to the Hole prize. Congratulations to all of the winners.
