On Wednesday, April 1, 2009, Durham Region Association of REALTORS® (DRAR) Members showed their support for Canadian men and women serving over seas in Afghanistan. DRAR Members wore red and got together for a large group photo at the Armories on Simcoe Street in Oshawa. Lindsay Smith, of RE/MAX SPIRIT INC, organized the photo event.
Members of the Durham Region Association of REALTORS®, Mayor John Gray, Durham Regional Police, Durham Fire Fighters and Veteran’s Association took part in a group photo as a display of solidarity for our soldiers in Afghanistan.
Over 110 of these brave soldiers have paid the ultimate price and many more have been injured. These losses have hit particularly close to home when Darryl Dawson, son of 2009 DRAR President Debbie Dawson was injured. Darryl was one of five Canadian Soldiers that were involved in a March 3rd, 2009 accident when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Fortunately Darryl survived the accident, but many others have not been so fortunate.
