In July 2013, the Walsh and Volk Team with Guaranteed Real Estate Services Inc. received some devastating news. Their broker, team leader, friend, father, and husband Lou Volk, was diagnosed with stage four throat cancer.
Fortunately, however, he was able to fully recover thanks to the excellent care and treatment from the Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario. Because of how grateful they are, the Walsh and Volk Team made it their goal to raise $20,000 for the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre Foundation.
“Lou and I know that cancer touches every family and we want to help as many families as we can to make them comfortable during their treatment,” Alison Walsh said.
How do they plan on reaching that goal?
First, the team regularly hosts fundraising events. These events include their quarterly client appreciation movie nights.
Every three months, previous and current clients of the Walsh and Volk Team are invited to partake in an evening of food, drinks, and a movie. While everyone is socializing, a donation box is passed around.
Every Halloween, the team transforms its Burlington office into a haunted house. This event is open to everyone, and those who join the fun are encouraged to donate. This event raised $225 this year.
To raise even more money outside of these events, clients can help contribute by referring their friends, family, neighbours, or themselves to the Walsh and Volk Team. For every referral they receive, and every home sale they make, they donate a portion of their income to the Juravinski Foundation.
So far, the Walsh and Volk Team have raised nearly $4,000 toward their goal.
