The Kitchener-Waterloo Association of REALTORS® (KWAR) gift to the local YWCA will provide 167 days worth of emergency shelter, warm food and crisis support for women experiencing homelessness.
KWAR recently presented $18,000 worth of donations to two deserving charities in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. The YWCA benefits from a $10,000 donation while the Child Witness Centre received a $8,000 cheque.
“The KWAR is proud to support the REALTORS Care® Foundation through its Every REALTORS® campaign, which helps to ensure investments are made back into our community through local charities,” said James Craig, president of the KWAR. “The RCF acts on behalf of Ontario REALTORS® in funding shelter-related charities across the province. Shelter is defined as a refuge, haven or protection that provides or improves quality of life from hunger, the elements, physical/psychological abuse, disabilities and illness”.
YWCA Kitchener-Waterloo CEO Elizabeth Clark said the half-year of support was a much-welcomed donation.
Laura Muirhead, executive director of the Child Witness Centre, said the $8,000 donation will ensure child abuse victims will have an advocate to support them and their families through the investigative process involving Waterloo Regional Police and Family Children’s Services of Waterloo Region.
“Every day in our community, a child or youth finds the courage to tell someone that they are being abused,” Muirhead said. “This gift to the Child Witness Centre … is an investment in creating hope – the children we help are significantly more likely to grow up and seize the opportunities ahead of them, building a stronger and safer community for everyone.”
