Almost a year ago, LSTAR member Mary Johnson of Realty Executives Elite Ltd. founded her own charity and named it “Kindness Above Everything” (KAE) after her aunt Kathrine “Kae” Mockler.
Since then, she started calling each week Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) to see what they need. Depending on the answers received, Mary has been donating, throughout the year, school supplies, bagged lunches, diapers, underwear, socks and other baby clothing, as well as various products of personal hygiene – such as soaps and shampoos.
In the summer, she organized a “Beach Day” for clients of YOU, when she provided beach towels and sunscreen lotions through her charity.
More recently, Mary asked all her friends not to give her any Christmas presents, but to donate instead a new pair of winter boots to KAE. Working through her charity and with the help of its supporters, she ran a very successful boot drive on December 8, 2014, when the youth utilizing YOU’s services received new winter boots.
Mary believes that “everyone wants to be kind” and is thrilled to see that her charity can make a difference in the local community. Beside YOU, other beneficiaries of KAE include: women and family shelters; mental health programs; after school programs; kids camps; children’s programs; and meals for seniors.
