A hospital is always a focal point in any community – large or small. And when a hospital needs help, the community is always ready to lend a hand. In the case of The Port Perry Hospital, help was needed to the tune of 4.5 million dollars and local REALTORS® were eager to help.
“The hospital is important to a small town,” said Tanya Latreille, a REALTOR® at Re/Max Scugog Realty in Port Perry. “And there has always been a threat of closure, so helping raise funds for this was very significant.”
The Agents of Re/Max Scugog Realty in Port Perry have pledged $50,000 over the next five years to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation “Lighting the Way Campaign.” The main focus of the ambitious fundraising effort – a state-of-the-art endoscopy suite – was just a twinkle in a physician’s eye. And now, through the tireless efforts of dedicated fundraisers, that dream has become a reality with the suite being official opened in January 2008.
“We are fast approaching another cheque presentation in the amount of $10,000 soon,” said Tanya Latreille, a REALTOR® at Re/Max Scugog Realty. “Our sales representatives and brokers deserve all the publicity because they prove what a small office can do when they believe in a local cause.”
Agents at the Port Perry office of Re/Max Scugog Realty are contributing a portion of their sales to the Lighting the Way Fund. Each transaction will go to support the hospital. “It’s a small price to pay,” added Latreille, ‘but in the end, it was easier than I thought it would be.” The agents are getting ready to present another $10,000 cheque in September 2008.
