Tracy Arnett, Broker of Record with Tracy Arnett Realty Ltd. Brokerage in Ottawa, Ontario, became a passionate supporter of the Hospice at May Court (which has since amalgamated with Friends of Hospice Ottawa to become Hospice Care Ottawa) in 2000, shortly after her father-in-law passed away in a similar hospice a few hours away. “This was my first view of what a hospice was and how beneficial it was to our family,” notes Tracy.
Tracy started by donating $25 from every sale to Hospice at May Court and progressively became more involved with the organization over the years. “As I began to get involved, I found my heart spoke to this need,” Tracy explains.
For the past 10 years, Tracy Arnett Realty Ltd. has been the Platinum Sponsor of its Hike for Hospice fundraising event. Her brokerage has also sponsored many movies at the local theatre to gain exposure and raise funds for the Hospice. For the past six years, she has volunteered in the residence on Friday mornings from 8-12 and now sits on Hospice Care Ottawa’s Board as a Director.
“My Friday mornings entail visiting with the patients and family, feeding the patients, touring new patients around our facilities, and assisting the nurses in all aspects of patient care,” says Tracy. “I find this to be my four hours of Zen. It’s the best part of my week. Giving back to our community has kept me grounded and reminds me not to sweat the small things in life as life can be short.”
Hospice Care Ottawa, an amalgamation of Friends of Hospice Ottawa and the Hospice at May Court, is a community based charitable organization. They offer services for clients and their loved ones to experience palliative and end-of-life care in a supportive and peaceful setting, surrounded by caring that reflects as closely as possible a comfortable home environment.
