It was a first-hand experience Sterling Wong had with SickKids that made him want to support the children’s hospital.
“Right from my childhood days, I wanted to give back to the people who helped me when I needed it most,” said Wong, the owner of Mississauga-based Search Realty Corp.
Now, many years later, Search Realty has a permanent fixture in the SickKids’ hall of donors. In recognition of donor contributions of $50,000 or more, SickKids erects permanent plaques along the walls of their hospital to show appreciation for donors, like Search Realty, who have become a backbone to the many breakthroughs that have helped overcome the challenges of children’s health.
“We feel extremely privileged to have our permanent plaque in the main hallway of SickKids. This will inspire us to continue to support them in the future,” Wong said.
Diagnosed with a cleft lip and palate at birth, Wong was put under the care of Dr. Zucker at the Hospital for Sick Children. He had multiple surgeries throughout his childhood, the SickKids Foundation website states, yet throughout everything he endured, he said he has fond memories of how caring the staff and doctors were to him.
Search Realty is committed to the initiative of supporting children’s health by contributing 1% of every sale to the SickKids Foundation. It’s a cause the agents at the brokerage wholeheartedly believes in, which resulted in the organic partnership to form.
SickKids Hospital has been at the forefront of children’s health since it was established back in 1875 and has grown to become a global leader championing the research, care and scientific advances for improving the lives of children throughout Canada and around the world. As a means to establish a fundraising platform, the SickKids Foundation emerged in 1972, inspiring over 232,000 donors since, to pledge their support towards saving children’s lives.
